Our Community in Atlanta

Anthony, Carmel, Michael and Catherine  from L'Arche Brisbane have been  with our 500 International Federation delegates at the L'Arche International General Assembly.

Twice every decade, delegates from across the Federation come together to share, listen and debate in order to guide the global L’Arche movement towards the future. Following gatherings in Assisi, Italy and Kolkata, India, this International Assembly was held in Atlanta, USA from June 1st to June 10th, 2012.

A daily journal and video of the Assembly activities is available online here. Some highlights with Australian content  from the Assembly included:
  • On Sunday 3rd June  our Community received official recognition by the Federation to our permanent status. We were able to vote at the Assembly for the very first time, it was great. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue on our journey.
  • Australia's Eileen Glass was elected as L'Arche Vice-International Leader alongside Patrick Fontaine who was elected International Leader.
  • John Coleman was on stage to welcome delegates with his music
The General Assembly decided upon the future plans for  the L’Arche mandate, based on four dreams – Living our mission, Developing leadership, Involvement in our cultures and societies, and shaping the Federation.
