The Commissioning of Julie Mackay as Uniting Church Chaplain

What an interesting night as the Service of Commissioning was awaited. Then as we gathered to go into the Auditorium we faced a well placed and designed Communion Table. Three purple candles of varying sizes were lit and the Communion Vessels shone in the glow of the candles.

Quite a few people were already seated as we ten representing L’Arche Brisbane took our places, being thankful for the time Julie has had amongst us.

The Chaplains who work with Julie were robed and this added to the overall effect.

Julie’s family (and partner) were present and read the lessons.

Julie is well respected already by the team of Chaplains and they are of all denominations. The joys and sorrows of the position were highlighted in several of the talks and the Sermon.

When Julie responded we could have cheered her immense courage and perseverance as this journey had begun back in 1978 with many rough places on the road as well as delightfully joyful areas. God apparently was determined to keep calling Julie to the role since then. Julie has now affirmed her response strongly.

Well done Julie our ongoing prayers and love will be with you.
